Privacy Policy
Nomad Istanbul provides editorial content for foreigners living in Istanbul. This page explains what personal data we collect through this website, how we use it, and your rights, with an emphasis on the EU/UK GDPR and Turkish KVKK.
If you only read one paragraph:
We collect what you type into our forms, your email for the newsletter, and additionally your name and your eligibility-quiz answers if you submit the quiz result form asking for help, plus standard analytics about how you reached the site. We use it only to send you what you signed up for and to answer you properly without making you repeat yourself. We don't sell your data. To delete your record, email hello@nomadistanbul.com.
1. Who is the data controller
Nomad Istanbul, based in Istanbul, Turkey. Contact: hello@nomadistanbul.com.
2. What data we collect
Two categories:
A. Data you give us directly:
- Email address
- For community applications: your name, WhatsApp number and plans for living in Istanbul. We use these to review your request and contact you about the group; applying does not subscribe you to a newsletter.
- Name, if you provide one on the eligibility result form
- Your eligibility-quiz answers, if you submit that form, kept so that a follow-up conversation doesn't start by asking you the same seven questions again
- Source: which page you signed up from (for analytics)
While you are taking the quiz, your answers stay in your own browser and are sent to us only when you submit the form on the result page. If you never submit, we never receive them.
B. Data collected automatically:
- UTM parameters from your URL (utm_source, utm_campaign, utm_content)
- Country and device type, via Google Analytics 4 with anonymized IP
- Standard server logs (IP, request time, page requested) retained ~30 days for security
3. How we use it
- To send you the newsletter content you signed up for. Legal basis: consent + legitimate interest.
- To respond to your request for help and prepare a relevant answer from your quiz results. Legal basis: your request, i.e. steps taken at your request before entering into a contract.
- To review community applications and contact you about membership. Applications are reviewed manually. If you join the WhatsApp group, your phone number is visible to other members.
- To measure which content works. Aggregate analytics only.
- To improve the site. No automated decision-making affecting you.
4. Who else processes your data
- Beehiiv, newsletter signup, storage, and email delivery. Privacy policy
- Google Sheets / Apps Script, stores submitted quiz results so we can follow up on your case. Privacy policy
- Resend, delivers help requests and community applications to our review inbox. Community application details are retained in that inbox; you can request deletion by email. Privacy policy
- Cloudflare Pages, static hosting and CDN. Privacy policy
- Cloudflare Email Routing, receives mail to hello@nomadistanbul.com and forwards to a personal mailbox. Privacy policy
- Google Analytics 4, aggregated analytics with anonymized IP. Privacy policy
5. Your rights
EU/UK/Turkey residents have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object, port, withdraw consent, and complain to a DPA. Email hello@nomadistanbul.com to exercise any of these. We aim to respond within 30 days.
6. Cookies
Minimal cookies. Google Analytics 4 sets `_ga` for aggregate measurement (anonymized IP). If you want to opt out, use your browser's "Do Not Track" or install the Google Analytics opt-out.
